H. J. High served as the design-build contractor on the City of Port Orange’s Wellfield Solar Energy Program. In conjunction with Tri-City Electrical Contractors, H. J. High designed the ground-mounted system placed on a quarter of an acre within a heavily forested area. This is what the city uses for wells to supply potable water to its residents. The solar panels power the pumps used to access the underground water. A bi-directional electrical meter was installed to return power to the electrical grid when the pumps are not in use. The city is able to monitor the electrical output of the system remotely from any computer.
Using 240-watt solar modules from SolarWorld, they guarantee that in over 25 years the modules’ performance will not decrease by more than .7% per year. This distinction is one reason why the panels are regularly ranked #1 by Photon Magazine (an industry leading solar power magazine). All materials used in the project were purchased within the Buy American limits required by the federal government and was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
H. J. High is proud to have completed the project one month ahead of schedule and within budget.
